Congressman Gonzalez Gives House Floor Speech on Impeachment

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) took to the House Floor to urge his colleagues to support the impeachment of President Donald Trump. This speech comes during the six hours of debate before the full House of Representatives on H.Res. 755, Impeaching Donald John Trump, President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors.

"I did not come to Congress to impeach a sitting President, but we've been given no choice," said Congressman Gonzalez in his speech. "He has eroded the foundations of our democracy and used the office of the presidency for personal and political gain. Our Founding Fathers feared that one day the power of the presidency would stretch beyond its limits. Thus they enshrined in the Constitution a system of checks and balances. … And that is why I must vote to impeach the President of the United States and fulfill my oath to the Constitution."
