Congressman Gonzalez Encourages South Texans to Apply for EPA Environmental Educational Awareness Grants

January 26, 2018

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) is encouraging educators and non-profits in the 15th District of Texas to apply for available grant funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Office of Environmental Education is now taking applications for its Environmental Education Local Grants Program. Proposals are due March 15, 2018.

"We are tasked with a great challenge: teaching our children to think critically and understand the world around them," Congressman Gonzalez said. "That means investing in curricula that teaches students about our everchanging environment and the importance of conservation. This EPA funding has the potential to expand environmental literacy and enhance existing programs in South Texas. I encourage educators and non-profits to apply and continue their efforts to give the next generation the tools they need to tackle the challenges of tomorrow."

U.S. EPA Region 6 will award three or four grants for no less than $50,000 and no more than $100,000 each. Funding will be used to support local environmental education projects that raise public awareness and knowledge about environmental issues. The increased awareness will allow participants to make informed decisions and make positive change toward the environment.

Eligible Applicants:

  • Educational Institutions
  • Non-Profit Organizations

Applicants must apply under the Research for Proposal (RFP) for U.S. EPA Region 6. RFP notices are available at https://www.epa.gov/education/environmental-education-ee-grant-solicitation-notice.
