Congressman Gonzalez Celebrates Rail Agreement that Protects Workers and Strengthens the Economy

December 2, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) released the following statement after President Biden signed House Joint Resolution 100, an agreement that protects rail workers and strengthens the American supply chain:

"I voted in favor of this deal to ensure that rail workers have the necessary protections to do the hard work required and ensure that the American economy is not burdened with more supply chain issues. A halt in our nation's railway infrastructure would have detrimental effects on our economy and the American people during a time of strong economic growth.

"Our nation's rail workers deserve a fair deal, and while this deal is not perfect, it guarantees workers are paid a living wage with benefits that include healthcare coverage and a long overdue pay raise. The American people need certainty that their leaders will take necessary steps to overcome the lingering effects of global supply chain issues. I will continue working to improve working conditions for rail workers who serve an integral role in our supply chain and economy."

H.J.Res. 100, adopts the Tentative Agreement between railroads and workers that was reached in September of 2022:

· a 24 percent pay raise and a $5,000 bonus

· no changes in copays, deductibles or coinsurance costs

· some time off for routine, preventative and emergency medical care

· protecting the two-man crew
