Congressman Gonzalez Celebrates Over $28 Million for Lead Pipe Replacement in Texas
Crucial Funding Comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announcedthe State of Texas has been allotted $28,650,000 from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF). The DWSRF is funded directly by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Congressman Gonzalez helped shepherd through the House in 2021. This year, DWSRF will provide $3 billion in total to support the identification and replacement of lead service lines in every state and territory nationwide.
“Our state has the fifth-highest percentage of lead water pipes in the country,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “This is a grave public health risk, especially for low-income families and Latino communities who are disproportionately impacted by lead exposure. Furthermore, lead-based pipes pose a serious risk to children as any level of lead contamination can cause health complications such as central nervous system damage or impairment. This crucial investment, made possible by Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is a major step in ensuring that no South Texan will have to worry about the quality of their drinking water.”
