Congressman Gonzalez Calls on Governor Abbott to Exercise Uniformity and Issue Shelter-In-Place Measure Immediately

April 2, 2020

MCALLEN, Texas – Following an Executive Order issued by Texas Governor Greg Abbott requiring travelers to self-quarantine for 14 days as a precautionary measure to stop the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued the following statement:

"Travelers from COVID-19 hot zones may be threats to our communities if they have unknowingly contracted the virus. States should institute any measure they see fit to curb the proliferation of COVID-19 including self-quarantine for travelers from pandemic hotspots.

Right now, we have too many competing measures and it's confusing for individuals who live in one county and work in another. Governor Abbott should do more by issuing a statewide shelter-in-place order for a few weeks to help flatten the curve and make these measures uniform across the state of Texas. We need clarity and leadership and I urge Governor Abbott to issue a shelter-in-place order now."
