Congressman Gonzalez Applauds Biden Administration, Intelligence Community on Counterterrorism Efforts to Topple Al-Qaeda Leader 

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after a successful U.S. drone strike killed top Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri:

"Ayman al-Zawahiri orchestrated 9/11 and numerous other devastating terrorist attacks across the world as the right-hand man to then Al-Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden. The world is a safer place without him. I applaud the Biden Administration and our intelligence community for their resolve, precision, and leadership to eliminate this global threat. I join my congressional colleagues and fellow Americans in reflecting on the lives lost on 9/11 and offering our deepest gratitude to the service members that continue to defend our freedom at home and abroad. "
