April 29, 2024

BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – On Wednesday April 24, 2024, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced that Sylvia Reyna, a 10th grade student at Edinburg High School, was the winner of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. Reyna’s winning piece, “Legacy” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol. This year, the office of Congressman Gonzalez received a record number of entries, totaling 108 from 17 high schools in the 34th Congressional District of Texas.

Art Competition winners will also be awarded a trip to Washington, D.C. and will be eligible to receive a $3,000 art scholarship to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), should they apply and be accepted for enrollment.

“I am thrilled to recognize Sylvia for her exceptional artwork,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “Sylvia’s ability to show her compassion and admiration for her grandmother’s legacy is something extraordinary. I encourage every young South Texan to continue pursuing their passions for art and creativity, whether that be through school or beyond. I am eager to welcome Sylvia to Washington, D.C. and to exhibit her artwork in the U.S. Capitol.”
