Congressman Gonzalez Announces Over $313 Million to Help Lower Texans’ Energy Costs
MCALLEN, TEXAS – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the State of Texas has received $313,713,228 in federal funding to help bring down energy costs for working families. Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and American Rescue Plan Act that Congressman Gonzalez voted to pass, these funds can be used to slash South Texans' energy bills, provide crisis assistance, and help weatherize homes.
"As we continue to grapple with the effects of rising energy prices, it is important that we do whatever we can to ensure that South Texans are able to withstand extreme weather" stated Congressman Gonzalez. "Last month, I was proud to join my fellow Democrats in voting for the government funding bill, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and American Rescue Plan Act that have sent this funding to South Texas. We must continue to bring down costs and deliver results for our region."
This deeply needed funding is administered under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). These investments are especially critical for lower-income households and communities of color who continue to disproportionately feel the impacts of climate change and extreme weather.
American Rescue Plan Act: $134,407,308
2021 Continuing Resolution (government funding): $149,494,402
Bipartisan Infrastructure Law: $9,627,413
2022 Consolidated Appropriations Act: $20,184,105
