February 28, 2023

RIO HONDO – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced a grant of $24,649,287 for Neighbors in Need of Services, Inc. (NINOS) Head Start programs in Rio Hondo from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

"Organizations like NINOS offer families and children the support and services to meet the needs of those who are underserved in our community," stated Congressman Gonzalez. "Programs like Head Start ensure that lower-income families are not left behind and are able to grow and learn alongside their friends and family. I am honored to announce this funding for NINOS that will bolster their reach and allow them to continue to diligently serve our community."

"We are pleased to announce that the grant award provides critical Head Start/Early Head Start services to over 2000 children and families in the Cameron and Willacy County area," stated David Kowalski, Executive Director of NINOS. "NINOS is proud to be a part of the effort to support and nurture the growth and development of our community's children, who are the future of our communities. In addition, this grant has allowed us to employ over 550 people in the area. These individuals are vital to our mission of providing high-quality educational services, and we are grateful for their commitment and hard work.

"We sincerely thank the Administration for Children and Families, the Office of Head Start, and our Congressman Vicente Gonzalez for their support. We are grateful to our dedicated team members and the families who entrust us with the care of their children. Together, we are making a positive difference in the lives of many in the Cameron and Willacy County area."

The Neighbors in Need of Services, Incorporated (NINOS, Inc.) Head Start/Early Start program was established in August 1990 and is a non-profit organization.
