Congressman Gonzalez Announces Over $2 Million for NINOS Head Start Program in Rio Hondo

August 7, 2023

RIO HONDO, TEXAS – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced a supplemental grant of $2,114,040 to Neighbors in Need of Services Inc. (NINOS) for Head Start programs in Rio Hondo, Texas. The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Administration for Children and Families.

“This crucial funding will allow NINOS to continue providing Cameron and Willacy County families and children with the support they need,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “Head Start offers vital preschool care services to many families that would otherwise not be able to afford it. Head Start programs are centered on early learning, health, and family well-being – all of which have been proven to prepare students to succeed in the classroom and beyond.”

The Neighbors in Need of Services, Incorporated (NINOS, Inc.) Head Start/Early Start program was established in August 1990 and is a non-profit organization. The service area covers newborns through four (4) years of age. Head Start children receive services that include educational, nutritional, dental health, transitional, and special services.

The mission of NINOS, Inc. is "creating a brighter future for the children and la familia." They work to enhance the development of young children, promote healthy family functioning, provide for staff development, and establish partners within the community.
