Congressman Gonzalez Announces Over $11 Million in Preliminary Title I Allocations for South Texas School Districts

February 13, 2020

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced $11,686,696 in preliminary federal funds for Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) Title I allocations for South Texas schools in the 15th District of Texas. The U.S. Department of Education will release final totals in June 2020.

Title I Grants to local school districts are intended to ensure that the most financially and socially disadvantaged children have an equal opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach proficiency on state academic assessments.

"One of my priorities is funding our public education institutions at the highest levels," said Congressman Gonzalez. "Teachers and students deserve access to every possible resource. I will continue to support public schools and advocate on behalf of top notch education programs for the 15th District of Texas to ensure our children are getting the best education possible. "

The following school districts in the 15th District of Texas have received the following preliminary funding allocations:

  • Benavides ISD: $171,629
  • Brooks County ISD: $1,264,941
  • Falls City ISD: $65,486
  • Floresville ISD: $825,447
  • Freer ISD: $264,862
  • George West ISD: $324,962
  • Jim Hogg County ISD: $630,656
  • Karnes City ISD: $307,263
  • La Vernia ISD: $310,795
  • Marion ISD: $169,167
  • Mathis ISD: $1,130,386
  • Navarro ISD: $150,480
  • New Braunfels ISD: $1,324,065
  • Nixon-Smiley Consolidated ISD: $367,880
  • Poth ISD: $65,896
  • Ramirez ISD: $17,939
  • Runge ISD: $94,735
  • San Diego ISD: $800,171
  • Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD: $1,085,381
  • Seguin ISD: $1,892,825
  • Stockdale ISD: $257,849
  • Three Rivers ISD: $163,881

The U.S. Department of Education expects to release final allocations in June of this year. Final numbers will differ from the preliminary allocations because of updates to the annually collected counts of children in locally operated institutions for neglected or delinquent children, in foster homes, and in families above the Census poverty line that receive assistance under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (non-Census formula children data) and finance data used in the Education Finance Incentive Grants formula. There may be additional differences if a State were to report revisions to its State Per-Pupil Expenditure (SPPE) data.

Congressman Gonzalez continues to be an advocate for every child in the 15th District of Texas and will work to bring additional funding to schools across South and Central Texas.
