Congressman Gonzalez Announces Over $11 Million Border Security Funding for South Texas
Enhancing safety and security in the 34th Congressional District
WASHINGTON D.C.– Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded $37 million to the state of Texas as part of Operation Stonegarden (OPSG) for Fiscal Year 2023, a longstanding effort to increase overall border security. Of that funding, more than $11 million is slated to support law enforcement in every county in the 34th Congressional District of Texas.
Since its inception in 2008, Operation Stonegarden has provided millions in funding to law enforcement agencies across the nation to improve inter-agency cooperation and coordination.
"This grant will greatly benefit the towns and communities that I represent in South Texas," said Congressman Gonzalez. "It directly supports our local law enforcement agencies by increasing their operational capacity and efforts to secure our southern border."
The $37 million in funding to the state of Texas will allow agencies to hire additional personnel, procure improved equipment, and support the deployment of law enforcement officers. Over $11 million of that funding will support law enforcement agencies in the 34th Congressional District of Texas.
The breakdown of OPSG funds by county for FY 2023 is as follows:
- Hidalgo County - $5,750,000
- Cameron County - $4,000,000
- Willacy County - $1,050,00
- Kenedy County - $415,000
- Kleberg County -$600,000
