Congressman Gonzalez Announces Over $108 Million in Preliminary Title I Allocations for Rio Grande Valley School Districts

February 13, 2020

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced $108,034,097 in preliminary federal funds for Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) Title I for schools in the Rio Grande Valley in the 15th District of Texas. The U.S. Department of Education will release final totals in June 2020.

Title I Grants to local school districts are intended to ensure that the most financially and socially disadvantaged children have an equal opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach proficiency on state academic assessments.

"One of my priorities is funding our public education institutions at the highest levels," said Congressman Gonzalez. "Teachers and students deserve access to every possible resource. I will continue to support public schools and advocate on behalf of top notch education programs for the 15th District of Texas to ensure our children are getting the best education possible. "

The following school districts in the Rio Grande Valley have received the following preliminary funding allocations:

  • Donna ISD: $14,344,908
  • Edcouch-Elsa ISD: $4,062,731
  • Edinburg ISD: $21,192,569
  • Hidalgo ISD: $1,466,863
  • La Villa ISD: $355,328
  • McAllen ISD: $15,542,193
  • Mercedes ISD: $4,339,244
  • Mission ISD: $11,081,619
  • Monte Alto ISD: $611,084
  • Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD: $19,057,904
  • Sharyland ISD: $3,601,015
  • Valley View ISD: $2,591,926
  • Weslaco ISD: $9,786,713

The U.S. Department of Education expects to release final allocations in June of this year. Final numbers will differ from the preliminary allocations because of updates to the annually collected counts of children in locally operated institutions for neglected or delinquent children, in foster homes, and in families above the Census poverty line that receive assistance under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (non-Census formula children data) and finance data used in the Education Finance Incentive Grants formula. There may be additional differences if a State were to report revisions to its State Per-Pupil Expenditure (SPPE) data.

Congressman Gonzalez continues to be an advocate for every child in the 15th District of Texas and will work to bring additional funding to schools across South and Central Texas.
