CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ ANNOUNCES NEARLY $15 MILLION FOR HIDALGO COUNTY HEAD START   

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the Hidalgo County Head Start Program will be receiving $14,797,265 in project funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This funding will have a direct, positive impact on low-income families looking to gain high-quality education services.

"Every child deserves access to a high-quality education," stated Congressman Gonzalez. "This funding will ensure that our children have access to the tools and resources for a strong start to their educational journey. I look forward to the continued work Hidalgo County Head Start does for our children and community."

"The Hidalgo County Head Start Program continues in its quest to break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy. The current funds will provide the for the resources required for the program operations during second half of the 2021-2022 program year," stated Teresa Flores, Executive Director of Hidalgo County Head Start Program. "In August 2021, our program began the in-person instruction to serve our children and families comprehensively in the areas of nutrition, health and safety, mental health, education, special services and other social services. We are committed to assist families to address trauma and other serious mental issues and challenges they must face after the pandemic and as they continue to address health and safety. We continue to partner with ten districts in the county to address diagnosed needs and deliver personalized instruction. We applaud Congressman Gonzalez for the unwavering support he has given our program and his relentless position to serve the poorest and the neediest first!"

The Hidalgo County Head Start Program is a comprehensive child development program administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Head Start offers participating children educational, nutritional, health, social, and special services.
