June 8, 2020

MCALLEN, Texas – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced a U.S. Department of Health and Human Service federal grant of $95,455 for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Area Health Education Centers Program to combat COVID-19.

This grant will help UTRGV expand its capacity to provide services for those affected by COVID-19 and additional health care for rural communities.

"Like I have said before, UTRGV is an invaluable partner for our community as we continue to combat the coronavirus," said Congressman Gonzalez. "It is my hope that these funds will help create more positive impacts for those afflicted by this new virus. I will continue to do all I can to make sure UTRGV and our health care partners in South Texas have the resources they need during this crisis."

"We are extremely grateful to Congressman Gonzalez for this contribution that will benefit our UTRGV Area Health Education Centers Program," said Dr. John Ronnau, UTRGV Senior Associate Dean for Community Health Partnerships. "This will directly impact our efforts in providing primary care to our rural communities, contribute to training medical students looking to gain experience in medically under-served settings, and assist in preventing and combating the spread of COVID-19 in our region."
