Congressman Gonzalez Announces $806,000 for Jim Hogg and Duval Counties for Enhanced Border Security

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced $806,000 in grant funding was awarded to Jim Hogg and Duval Counties for Homeland Security’s Fiscal Year 2019 Operation Stonegarden (OPSG). OPSG seeks to provide funds to enhance cooperation among state, local, tribal, territorial and federal law enforcement in joint coordination to secure the United States’ borders in states bordering Mexico and Canada.

The OPSG program provides $90 million for improved security along routes of ingress including travel corridors and international waters.

“Increased funding for this joint mission is imperative to properly secure our routes of passage into and out of the United States,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “These funds will assist Jim Hogg and Duval Counties in obtaining the resources required to build a culture of preparedness while ensuring the safety and well-being of those that live and work there.”

The breakdown of OPSG funds by county is as follows:

  • Jim Hogg County - $628,000
  • Duval County - $178,000

The FY 2019 Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) is composed of three related grant programs: State Homeland Security Program (SHSP), Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI), and Operation Stonegarden.
