Congressman Gonzalez Announces $5 Million for Tropical Texas Behavioral Health

September 30, 2021

Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced a grant of $5,000,000 for the Tropical Texas Behavioral Health Center by the Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

This funding will enhance and restore clinical services to address the needs of those with mental health and substance abuse issues. This program is aimed to increase accessibility of early intervention treatments and improve delivery of crisis services in response to the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on mental health.

"The pandemic exacerbated existing disparities in access to mental health and substance abuse services," said Congressman Gonzalez. "I'm proud to award this funding to Tropical Texas Behavioral Health and support continued delivery of their top notch services for South Texans seeking assistance."

"Tropical is honored to be awarded this additional funding. It will be of tremendous help as we continue to try and keep up with local demand for services – especially during the pandemic. My thanks to our local elected officials for their unwavering support of TTBH and its mission" notes Terry Crocker, Chief Executive Officer at TTBH.
