Congressman Gonzalez Announces $12 Million Grant for Communities in Texas’ 15th District from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
WASHINGTON— Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that Texas' 15th District has received $12,273,740 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in funding for the Community Development Block (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG), and HOME program. The federal funds will be awarded to Edinburg, McAllen, Mission, New Braunfels, and Pharr and Hidalgo County.
"These programs are some of the most effective tools our counties and cities have in their toolbox and I am proud to support them," Congressman Gonzalez said. "With this funding, communities in the 15th District of Texas will have the ability to address some of the most pressing housing, infrastructure, community development and economic challenges facing South Texas. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to ensure that our region continues to receive these and other federal funds."
CDBG grants will provide annual state and local units of government with the opportunity to increase economic opportunities, for otherwise low or moderate-income individuals, by producing housing and quality environments for living.
ESG grants from HUD will be used to assure that those without housing are able to have access to shelters and re-housing, as well as foster strategies that will prevent families or individuals from becoming homeless.
In an effort to increase accessibility to affordable housing, the HOME program will provide these areas with Federal funding that will offer low- and very low-income families to receive aid from State and local government.
Congressman Gonzalez looks forward to the economic and housing opportunities that will come to fruition as a result of these federal grants.
