Congressman Gonzalez Announces $1.2 Million for Community Council of South Central Texas
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced $1,295,684 for the Community Council of South Central Texas (CCSCT). This funding comes as part of the Head Start program funding awarded to promote schools readiness for pre-school children from low-income families. These funds are part of an installment for a five year grant.
The award is expected to provide comprehensive assistance including: educational, nutritional, health, social, and special services.
"This next wave of funds will help local schools and communities address the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges our youngest students face," said Congressman Gonzalez. "I'm proud to partner with community education organizations, teachers and parents to give our children the tools to thrive."
"Early Head Start/Head Start funding allows CCSCT to provide programming to parents and their children ages 0 – 5," said Bobby Deike, Executive Director of CCSCT. "These services include school readiness, social skills, emotional well-being. All children receive health screenings and nutritious meals. Supportive services include medical, dental, and mental health along with programs that promote family well-being."
CCSCT is currently funded in Guadalupe and Comal Counties to serve 34 infant, toddlers and pregnant women and 229 children ages 3-4 years old.
