Congressman Gonzalez and Sister Norma Pimentel Urge Speaker Ryan to Act on DACA Legislation
WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) and Sister Norma Pimentel of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, urged Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (WI-01) to immediately bring a clean DREAM Act bill to the House Floor for a vote.
In September 2017, the Trump Administration announced the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Since then, Congress and the Administration have tried and failed to reach an agreement that would determine the future of 800,000 young DREAMers. Earlier this week, Congressman Gonzalez signed Discharge Petition No. 10, which would force a vote on several bills, including legislation that would give these young people a pathway to citizenship.

“On Wednesday, Sister Norma and I spoke on behalf of thousands of DREAMers – our young students, servicemembers and people,” Congressman Gonzalez said. “We told Speaker Ryan that now is the time for action – now is the time to give these young people the certainty they deserve by bringing the DREAM Act for a vote in Congress.”
Congressman Gonzalez has been a steadfast advocate for DACA recipients and has co-sponsored various legislative solutions to give these young people a pathway to citizenship.
