Community Project Funding Requests
Congressman Vicente Gonzalez has submitted funding requests for important community projects in the 15th District of Texas to the House Appropriations Committee.
Under guidelines issued by the Appropriations Committee, each Representative may request funding for up to 15 projects in their community for fiscal year 2023 – although only a handful may actually be funded. Projects are restricted to a limited number of federal funding streams, and only state and local governments and eligible non-profit entities are permitted to receive funding. Explanation: The funding would be used to supplement the Donna Police Department with the purchase of a Domestic Violence/Victim app, Victim Initiated Notification Application, for the security, lethality, and preservation of evidence with regard to domestic violence and crime victims' rights.

Project Name: Mercedes Expansion of Sanitary Sewer Collection System for Northeast Quadrant
Amount Requested: $1,549,044

Explanation: This project will replace approximately 3,000' of existing and inadequate 10" sanitary sewer line with a 15" line and expand and additional approx. 5,000' of 15" sanitary sewer line from Mile 1/2 E to Mile 2 E on Mile 8 N., providing a safe and healthy method of collecting and treating sanitary sewer while promoting economic development in the area.

Explanation: This funding will be used to establish the Brooks County School Based Health Center, a Federally Qualified Community Health Center in Brooks County to bring health services to the residents of this rural area. Proposed plans include the construction of a 4,640 square foot facility at the cost of $1,392,000. The facility will be constructed on land owned by the Brooks ISD; the facility will be operated by the Community Action Corporation of South Texas—a private non-profit corporation funded by HRSA and operating seven Community Health Centers in rural south Texas.
