Congressman Gonzalez Participates in Inaugural Select Committee Hearing on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth

August 2, 2021

WASHINGTON – On Thursday, July 29, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) attended the inaugural hearing for the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth entitled: "The Nature and Consequences of American Economic Disparity". Congressman Gonzalez was appointed to investigate and focus on the connection between economic growth and infrastructure connectivity.

Economic inequality is a concerning and enduring problem that has intensified during the pandemic. The American Dream is unreachable for too many; wages remain stagnant and no longer cover the rising cost of living while the gap between the average middle class American and CEO widens.

Congressman Gonzalez questioned witnesses on how the lack of physical and digital infrastructure connectivity impacts South Texas and communities across the country.

The Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth was established in the 117th Congress to investigate and offer solutions to close the increasing economic divide. It is modeled after the mission of the Temporary National Economic Committee, established by President Roosevelt and the Congress. The Committee's mission will be to Build Back Better in a way that ensures liberty, prosperity and opportunity for all.
