Congressman Gonzalez Announces Federal Funding Opportunity for Texas Fire Departments and First Responders

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced an opportunity for fire departments and first responders in the 15th District of Texas to receive funding for enhanced safety equipment and training. Operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program is offering federal funding and assistance to improve response to fire and emergency situations.

The program is open to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations and State Fire Training Academies, and is intended to provide critically needed resources to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards.

"Firefighters and first responders put their lives on the line to protect us and we should give them the best equipment and training available,"said Congressman Gonzalez."Today's federal funding opportunity will help train our firefighters and better protect communities in South Texas. My office stands ready to assist any fire department, EMS organization or training academy that wishes to apply."

Eligible fire departments, EMS organizations, and Fire Training Academies are encouraged to apply for these funds at www.grants.gov or at www.fema.gov/welcome-assistance-firefighters-grant-program by Friday, March 13, 2020 by 5:00pm ET.
