Congressman Gonzalez Announces Extension of Federal Disaster Assistance Registration Period for Karnes County
WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the timeline for residents affected by Hurricane Harvey to apply for disaster assistance. Residents in Karnes County, in the 15th District of Texas, now have until Friday, November 24, 2017 to register.
"I am pleased to see that FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration have extended the application period for disaster assistance," Congressman Gonzalez said. "I strongly recommend that individuals in Karnes County and all affected areas thoroughly review FEMA and SBA's offerings and consider registering for these programs."
Potential applicants in Karnes County can register for these nontaxable grants the following ways:
- Online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.
- Via the FEMA mobile app, available at fema.gov/mobile-app
- Phone (800) 621-3362 (711 or Video Relay Service) 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily,
TTY (800) 462-7585.
- At a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). Find your nearest DRC at fema.gov/drc
Additionally, private nonprofit organizations, homeowners, renters and business owners will still have the opportunity to apply for low-interest disaster loans from the SBA. Loans provided by the SBA are intended to cover losses where insurance or other agencies cannot provide beneficiary assistance.
