Congressman Gonzalez Announces $3.75 Million for Seguin Independent School District

October 2, 2019

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced Seguin Independent School District (ISD) was awarded a School Climate Transformation Grant by the U.S. Department of Education. Seguin ISD was awarded $750,000 for a period of five years, which will total $3,750,000.

The School Climate Transformation Grant initiative builds on evidence-based strategies for schools to enhance school climate and behavioral outcomes for all students. Students who learn in positive learning environments are more likely to improve academically, participate more fully in the classroom, and develop skills that will help them be successful in school and in life.

"A positive learning environment is a critical factor for student success," said Congressman Gonzalez. "As long as I am a Congressman, I will continue to fight so every school is provided with adequate resources and every student receives a top-notch education. I am pleased to see Seguin ISD receive this grant and continue its efforts to create an environment that is conducive to learning and empowers students and educators."

"I am excited to learn that Seguin ISD is the recipient of the School Climate Transformation Grant. This program will create opportunities for the district to enhance our proactive approach to support our students districtwide. In addition to staffing and training, the grant will ultimately allow us implement a layered system to improve our overall student climate through engagement, safety and environment, said Dr. Matthew Gutierrez, Seguin ISD Superintendent. "I, along with the Seguin ISD board of trustees, express our gratitude to Congressman Vicente Gonzalez for writing a letter of support during the grant application process. We are proud of his continued support of Seguin ISD."

The purpose of the School Climate Transformation Grant Program--Local Educational Agency Grants (SCTG- LEA) provides competitive grants to local educational agencies (LEAs) to develop, enhance, or expand systems of support for, and technical assistance to, schools implementing a multi-tiered system of support, for improving school climate.
