Congressman Gonzalez Announces $3.2 Million for McAllen International Airport

February 25, 2021

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez announced a $3,210,638 grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for COVID-19 relief for the McAllen International Airport.

The grant funds will cover operational expenses such as personnel, utilities, maintenance, salaries and disinfecting processes added due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The pandemic has taken a toll on our critical transportation hubs and these funds will help alleviate some of the burden our airports are experiencing," said Congressman Gonzalez. "Protecting our transportation workers and providing travelers a safe environment while in transit is a top priority. I'm proud to help advocate on behalf of the McAllen International Airport and secure this important FAA grant.

"The City of McAllen has been working relentlessly to protect the health of residents and visitors traveling through our airport," said McAllen City Manager Roel "Roy" Rodriguez, P.E. "We are committed to utilizing this FAA grant to continue these efforts."

"We are grateful for Congressman Gonzalez's ongoing efforts to provide federal support for important local infrastructure programs. This FAA Grant award will allow us to ensure that McAllen International Airport operates at the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation," said Mayor Jim Darling.
