La Feria, Texas—Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34), joined by City of La Feria Mayor Olga Maldonado, La Feria City Commissioners, and other local leaders, delivered $1 million in Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) Community Project Funding to mitigate stormwater flooding and prevent property damage. Specifically, the investment will be used to install a new storm sewer pump station in the City of La Feria’s La Bonita neighborhood.

“When extreme weather hits flood-prone areas like the Rio Grande Valley, we must ensure that South Texas families and businesses are protected against flooding,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “With this $1 million investment that I successfully passed into law to install a new sewer pump station, we are making a real difference in the daily lives of La Feria residents. I’d like to thank Mayor Maldonado, City Commissioners, and all City staff for partnering with me to strengthen the local economy, public safety and resiliency.”

"The City of La Feria is incredibly grateful to Congressman Vicente Gonzalez and his team for their continued support. This gracious funding for the La Bonita drainage project will positively impact stormwater management and prevent flooding in one of the City's most affected areas,” said Mayor Maldonado.

In March 2025, the Rio Grande Valley experienced devastating storms, with some areas receiving 10 to15 inches of rain in less than 48 hours. Due to low terrain, communities in South Texas are at an elevated risk of dangerous floods that can result in the loss of life and cause damage to homes, small businesses, and other critical infrastructure.

As a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Gonzalez successfully secured $12.6 million in federal funds for 15 community projects this past year, including the City of La Feria’s La Bonita Pump Station & Drainage Improvements project.
